Reflections on Water, Carol Corey Fine Art, 29.4.-6.6.2023
„Reflections on Water“ is a group exhibition featuring work by six artists who explore imagery related to water and shorelines — Matthias Meyer, Dozier Bell, Dina Brodsky, Lisa Lebofsky, James Mullen and Rick Shaefer.
Water has a number of symbolic connotations. It can signify purity and tranquillity, but it also be tempestuous and forbidding, In both literature and art, water is considered a metaphor for change – it is forever flowing, and can suddenly change course.
In art history, water and the shoreline have inspired contemplations on beauty, on the infinite and the divine. In our time, it is difficult to observe these scenes without a sense of foreboding and potential loss due to the threat of rising sea levels. Each of the artists whose work is included have a unique relationship with water, its imagery and its deeper meanings.
